Week #2 was a successful week for the Irish!

The Girls varsity started the week on Tuesday, 8/23, with their season home opener against Boyd County.  Senior #6 Catherine Jung scored the first Lady Irish goal of the season in the 10th minute on a chip past the keeper and Freshman #16 Libby Goetz scored in the 80th minute to lead the girls to a 2-0 win.  Click here for detailed stats.

On Thursday, 8/25, the boys and girls played a doubleheader at home against Cross Lanes Christion.  Senior #3 Summer Pilcher scored a hat trick and Senior #22 Ferin Neff also scored to give the Lady Irish their second win of the week, 4-1.  Click here for detailed girls game stats.

The boys varsity fell behind Cross Lanes Christian in the 1st half, down 0-2 until a foul 10 yards above the left top of the 18 yard box setup a free kick by Senior #15 Quinton Mays, who capitalized on the opportunity, putting the ball into the net on a nicely placed shot that deflected off a defender's shoulder. The Irish entered the 2nd half down by 1.  However, Senior striker #25 Josh Pierson found a breakaway opportunity in the 47th minute, tieing the game at 2 -2.  The match ended in a draw.  Click here for detailed boys game stas.

On Saturday, 8/27, the boys and girls varsity went on the road to Cabell Midland.  The boys put 5 shots on goal in the 1st half, but were unable to score.  In the 45th minute, Junior #3 Stephen Jenkins sent in a L-R cross, which deflected off a Cabell Midland defender, resulting in a Cabell Midland own goal.  The Irish kept up the pressure.  In the 49th minute #25 Josh Pierson dribbled the ball into the 6 yard box and poked it in for a goal.  The match ended in a 2-0 victory.  Click here for detailed game stats.  The girls played good defense and held off 5 Lady Knight shots on goal during their match. Both teams had an opportunity toward the end of the match to score, but were unable to connect past defenders.  The match ended in a 0 - 0 draw.  Click here for detailed game stats.
