The girls and boys hits the road this week for away games in Ravenswood, Hico, and Charleston.

The week started in Ravenswood on Tuesday, 8/30, with a doubleheader.  The boys went ahead early, scoring two goals within the first three minutes of the game.  Irish defender, Senior #10 Zach Dougherty, scored on a chest-in off a short pass by #14 Lakin Books, shortly followed by a goal by Senior #9 Robert Null on a hard shot from just inside the left-top of the 18 yard box.  The Irish struck again 10 minutes later. Junior defender #5 Evan Goetz placed a header into the net off a corner kick from Robert Null in the 13th minute. Junior #3 Stephen Jenkins tapped another goal in in the 14th minute outside the left top of 6 yard box, assisted by Lakin Brooks.  Senior #11 Troy Silva scored on another header in the 16th minute on another Robert Null corner kick service.  The final goal came in the 77th minute when Sophomore #19 Torin Walters found the net on a shot from inside the top of the 18 yard box, assisted by #24 Turner Stacks.   The girls faced a strong Ravenswood squad and were unable to put a shot on goal during the first half. Ravenswood fired a total 6 shots on goal in the 1st, finding the net on two shots, up by 2 at the half.  The Lady Irish picked up the pace in the 2nd half, putting 7 shots on goal.  However, Ravenswood answered with another 6 shots on goal, again finding the net twice, ending the match in a 0-4 Lady Irish loss.

The girls traveled to Hico on Thursday, 9/1, to play Midland Trail. The Lady Irish matched Midland Trail in shots on goal at 5 apiece.  However, Midland Trail was successful in placing two of their five shots into the net in the 4th and 52nd minute of play.  The third Midland Trail goal resulted from a St. Joe own goal in the 37th minute.  The match ended in a 0-3 Irish loss.

On Friday, 9/2, the Boys traveled to Schoenbaum Stadium for JV and Varsity home matches against Martinsburg. The JV squad played well in the first half in 100+ degree heat, but were unable to stop a Martinsburg shot in the 30th minute, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0 at the half.  Martinsburg increased their pressure in the 2nd, placing two more shots into to goal during the 46th and 47th minute, resulting in an Irish 0-3 JV squad loss.

The Boys Varsity game started a few minutes before the scheduled 7:30 start time. The Irish put heavy pressure on the Martinsburg squad in the 1st half, keeping the Bulldogs from putting any shots on goal.  Junior #3 Stephen Jenkins scored the first St. Joe goal in the 13th minute, finishing from the left side of the 18 yard box off a R-L crossing pass from Senior #25 Josh Pierson.  The Irish defense continued to hold off a stepped-up Martinsburg initiative in the 2nd half, who put 4 shots on goal without scoring. Jenkins scored again in the 43rd minute on a header, assisted again by Pierson.  The match ended in a 2-0 St. Joe win.  Keeper Rob Blair earned his 4th clean sheet of the season.
