Week #7 resulted in a winning week for the boys and girls teams!

The week started on the road, with the boys heading to Oak Hill to take on the #2 A/AA Red Devils, and the girls making a short trip across the Ohio River to Chesapeake to battle the Lady Panthers on Tuesday, 9/27.  The St. Joe boys struck early against Oak Hill, when #9 Robert Null finished on a hard shot from 25 yards out, sending the ball into the net above the keeper.  #25 Josh Pierson scored in the 37th minute on a breakaway, assisted by #3 Stephen Jenkins to put the Irish up by 2.  However, Oak Hill responded just one minute later, when #16 Markie Manning scored on a grounder from the left top of the 18 yard box.  Two minutes later, in the 40th minute, a Red Devils foul at the top of the 18 yard box setup a free kick by Robert Null, who connected with #11 Troy Silva, who tapped the ball in to put St. Joe up 3-1 at the half.  The second half of play demonstrated an increased physical effort by Oak Hill to finish, to no avail.  The game ended in a 3-1 St. Joe win.  The girls also struck in the 1st half against Chesapeake. A strike by #2 Joee Goheen deflected off a Chesapeake defender, resulting in an own goal and put the Lady Irish up 1-0 at the half.  St. Joe struck again in the 2nd half, when #18 Lydia Pierson found a breakaway opportunity and finished.  The game ended in a 2-0 St. Joe girls victory.

On Friday, the change in temperature and on-off rain showers didn't dampen the 2011 Homecoming spirit.  The Lady Irish hit the field first, and went up first midway through the first period when Freshman #17 Sydney Porter found the net.  The Lady Panthers replied a short time later, scoring off  a free kick from the left top of the 18 yard box off a St. Joe foul  and sending both teams to the sideline in a 1-1 draw at the half.  The second half demonstrated additional Lady Irish scoring by seniors #22 Ferin Neff and #18 Lydia Pierson, sealing a 3-1 St. Joe homecoming win.  The boys also struck early in the their match against Mountain Mission.  Senior #8 Quinton Mays drilled a hard shot into the net from the right top of the 18 yard box off a L-R crossing pass by Senior #25 Josh Pierson in the 7th minute.  The Irish struck again in the 14th minute, when Junior #3 Stephen Jenkins scored on a steep-angled shot from the far right side of the 6 yard box, putting St. Joe up 2-0 at the half. The occasional rain didn't stop the Crusader pressure.  Mountain Mission pushed hard, appearing to benefit from the extended halftime break to rest their legs.  The Crusaders perseverance payed off in the 71st minute when #3 scored on a breakaway run past the St. Joe defenders.  The match ended in at 2-1 St. Joe win.
