The 2012 Season got off to a start this week, with Boys and Girls both playing at home to large crowds.

The Boys opened the season on Friday (8/17) against the Brooke Bruins.  The Irish struck first in the 21st minute when Senior #3 Stephen Jenkins sent one into the left side of the 6 yard box where Junior #11 Brian Conaty deflected the ball just enough for Senior #14 Lakin Brooks to finish with the first goal of 2012 regular season play.  The game opened up for St. Joe in the 33rd minute when Jenkins sent in a steep R-L cross to the back left post, again finding Brooks, putting the score at 2-0.  The Irish kept up the pressure, with Jenkins scoring from the left side of the 6 yard box in the 37th minute, assisted by Conaty, closely followed by another goal from the left side of the 18 yard box by Conaty, assisted by Brooks.  Senior #5 Evan Goetz completed the St. Joe first period scoring frenzy, sending in a shot from the left top of the 18 yard box, putting the Irish up 5-0 at the half. St. Joe settled into working on possession and passing skills in the second half of play.  Another scoring opportunity came in the 48th minute when Junior #9 Kevin Reger sent a R-L cross, where Freshman #13 Christian Yablonsky connected 12 yards out on the left side to score, scoring his first high school goal and sealing a 6-0 St. Joe win.  Junior keeper Torin Walters earned his first clean sheet of the 2012 season.

The Boys go on the road Tuesday, 8/21 to play the Winfield Generals, followed by a home game on Saturday, 8/25 against Cabell Midland.

The Girls faced Linsly on Saturday (8/18) who just came off a 1-0 loss to Charleson Catholic the day before.   Linsly struck in the 3rd minute, putting the Lady Irish down 0-1 early in the match.  St. Joe played good defense, staving off a number of Linsy runs.  The Irish evened the score in the 15th minute when Sophomore #16 Libby Goetz scored off a blocked shot.  Linsly kept up the pressure, scoring three more times (26th, 32nd, 37th minute)  and putting the Lady Irish down 1 - 4 at the half.  The second half exhibited a continued defensive game for St. Joe.  Linsly scored one time in the 2nd period at the 58th minute, putting the final score at 1 - 5 loss. St. Joe Junior keeper #14 Rachel Lee had an impressive 18 saves for the game including a well-timed tip of a shot to the upper-right 90 in the 25th minute of play.

The Girls travel to Point Pleasant on Thursday, 8/23 to play the Lady Pointers, followed by a home game on Saturday, 8/25 against Cabell Midland.
