The boys started the week off on Tuesday, 8/21 against Winfield in varsity and JV play.  The Generals played tough and fast, going up by 1 early in the match during the 9th minute on a shot from 12 yards out, followed by another goal in the 25th minute on a breakaway.  St. Joe had trouble containing the Winfield wings throughout the game, allowing for multiple crossing setups that resulted in another Winfield goal in the 68th minute of play and resulted in a 0 - 3 St. Joe loss. The girls headed to Point Pleasant on Thursday, 8/23 in high hopes for their first win of the season.  Point Pleasant struck early on a shot just getting by #14 Rachel Lee in the 3rd minute to go up 1 - 0. The Lady Irish maintained possession throughout the game and had 17 shots on goal.  However, Point Pleasant keeper M. Criste denied all scoring attempts and St. Joe came back from Point Pleasant with a tough 0-1 loss.  Click here for the game box score

Both teams showed up at the Kennedy Center on Saturday, 8/25 ready to face the Cabell Midland Knights on a beautiful sunny day playing to another large home crowd.  The St. Joe girls hit the pitch first, playing tough defense and pressuring the Lady Knights thoughout the game.  Game possession was split evenly , with St. Joe having 11 shots-on-goal versus 9 for Cabell Midland.  The game ended in a 0 - 0 draw.  St. Joe keeper, Junior, #14 Rachel Lee earned her first clean sheet of the 2012 season. The Boys placed six shots-on-goal versus two from Cabell Midland during their match.  The Knights struck with the only goal of the game in the 48th minute when #14 Justin Merritt sent in a shot from 35 yards out on the left side.  Irish keeper Torin Walters was unable to block the shot, which came in high on the left side and Cabell Midland walked away with a 1 - 0 win.  Click here for the varsity game box score. The Girls start week #3 with a home game vs Winfield at 6PM on Tuesday, 8/28.  The Boys and Girls travel to Ashland Paul Blazer HS on Thursday 8/30 for doubleheader play, followed by another away doubleheader on 9/1 against Boyd County HS.
