St. Joe Soccer Week #6 started with a bye for both teams on Tuesday, the girls at home against the Poca Dots and the Boys traveling to Clendenin to face the Herbert Hoover Huskies on Thursday, and the Girls at home playing Chesapeake and the Boys back on the road at St. Albans on Saturday. On Thursday Sophomore #16 Libby Goetz scored off a blocked shot in the 18th minute to put St. Joe up by one at the half. The Dots came back in the 48th minute to tie things back up, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Click here for the box score. The Boys went up early against the Huskies, when Junior #11 Brian Conaty scored on a PK awarded from a foul in the box during the 4th minute of play. Conaty scored again in the 14th minute, followed by the rocketing volley shot from 25+ yards out by Senior #5 Evan Goetz in the 19th minute to put the Irish up by 3. Herbert Hoover found an opportunity a few moments later when #1 Jesse Weese scored on a breakaway in the 26th minute. St Joe went ahead by another goal just one minute later when Senior #14 Lakin Books scored a header off corner service by #3 Stephen Jenkins. St. Joe scored three more times in the second period (49th - Brooks, assisted by Jenkins, 52nd - Jenkins, unassisted, 79th Vincent Mays unassisted) to end the game at 7-1. Click here for the box score. On Saturday, the girls went up early in their home game against Chesapeake when Freshman # 20 Becca Lee scored on a breakaway in the 12th minute. The ladies held the lead the rest of the match to win 1-0. Junior keeper #14 Rachel Lee earned her 2nd clean sheet of the season. Click here for the box score (partial). The boys fell behind early in their match against St. Albans when a St. Joe foul in the box during the 5th minute setup a PK, scored by #8 Ronnie Broadrick. St. Joe pressured back and Senior #3 Stephen Jenkins scored 3 times (13th minute - unassisted, 21st minute - assisted by #23 Anthony Rabel, 26th minute - assisted by #14 Lakin Brooks) to earn a hat trick and lead the Irish to their 7th win of the season.
