Boys Varsity Wins at Home, Girls Varsity Bring Home a Draw

September 21, 2010 @ Home (boys) and Beckley YMCA Soccer Complex (girls) - 

The boys varsity team won against Sissonville at home, 3 - 1, and the girls played to a 0 - 0 draw against Shady Spring on the road in Beckley on play on Tuesday.

The boys team went ahead in the 19th minute on a shot by Junior #4 Evan Bolano off a through ball feed from Junior #15 Quinton Mays.  Sissonville responded in the 23rd minute, when Senior #10 Aatu Kohlemaine scored an unassisted goal. St. Joe keeper, Junior #1 Rob Blair pulled the Irish ahead in the the 24th minute, scoring from 75 yards out off a free kick that bounced past the Sissonville keeper.  Blair assisted Senior # 32 Nick Turner on a breakaway goal in the 57th minute, giving Blair the unusual opportunity to record player stats in the goals, assists, and saves columns for the game.

The girls varsity team had 13 shots on goal during their game against Shady Spring, but were unable to find the net.  Junior keeper #5 Amber Chadwick earned her 4th clean sheet.

The boys see action on Wednesday, 9/23, when the boys JV travels to Point Pleasant for games against Point Pleasant and Ravenswood.  The girls and boys varsity teams play their next matches against Mountain Misson School in St. Joe Homecoming action on Friday, 9/25, at Spring Valley High School.
